We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but most of us still tend to start our day with an empty stomach because we prefer to have more sleep. Some say that it’s sort of okay to skip breakfast1,2, but those who insist otherwise emphasize that breakfast can improve mood and memory retention throughout the day3,4. Well, whichever side you’re on, one thing’s for sure— it’s not impossible to crave for bacon and scrambled eggs for merienda, or even dinner. There’s no written rule on when to eat breakfast dishes anyway. Lol. Also, what are all-day breakfast restaurants for if people opt to eat breakfast dishes only in the morning?
Now you know that this list isn’t just for the early risers, I hope that you’re all equally thrilled to know where to go and what to eat whenever you’re craving for something tasty and filling:
- π Breakfast & Pies: Caramelized Spam
- Pancake House: Cheese Waffle
- Crisp on 28th: Bacon and Eggs
- Denny’s: The Grand Slamwich
- Single Origin: Homemade Corned Beef Benedict
- Rodic’s Diner: Tapsilog
Aside from being consistent in serving super yummy breakfast plates, they (most of the time) serve the perfect five-minute egg, too. Lol. This is why we usually dined at their original cafe in Teachers Village during college. 90% of the time, we ordered their Caramelized Spam. Why? Well, first of all— who doesn’t love Spam?
Caramelized Spam (Php 265)
You can find π Breakfast & Pies at 39 Malingap Street in Quezon City, and The Grove by Rockwell in Pasig City.
Pancake House has been with us for over 40 years now, so it’s probably not surprising to see this on the list. Although they started to show inconsistency in the quality of their main dishes over the last few years (since Max’s acquisition5), I still love Pancake House for their best-tasting pancakes and waffles— they will never make you feel sated. As for my favorite:
Cheese Waffle (Php 189)
Quite simple, yes, but it’ll surely brighten up your day. If you haven’t dined at Pancake House yet, now’s the time to consider it— make yourself at home at any of their 91 branches in Metro Manila!
Nope, it’s not your typical baconsilog— ordering this classic breakfast combo from Crisp on 28th means you’ll get to savor a slab of bacon, sunny side soufflé, onion and potato hash, and a salad drizzled with grilled honey lemon dressing. I know, it’s kinda odd to find a salad on the side of a classic breakfast meal, but the fact that Erwan Heussaff owns this restaurant already gives justification to the existence of the salad. Lol. Nonetheless, it’s a really tasty (and interesting, thanks to the sunny side soufflé) meal that’ll help you conquer the day!
Bacon and Eggs (Php 290)
Crisp on 28th is located at the ground floor of Alveo Corporate Center in BGC.
Though it’s a sandwich, we can’t easily consider it as a light meal— in fact, a single order can possibly serve two people already. The size of The Grand Slamwich is relatively large, and it has a lot of stuff in it, as seen below:
The Grand Slamwich (Php 395)
The amount of ingredients stuffed in the sandwich definitely makes it worthy of the title The Grand Slamwich: two scrambled eggs, crumbled sausage, bacon, shaved ham, American cheese, and maple spice spread (my favorite part lol). It’s a calorie party!
Interested? Head over to either of Denny’s branches in Trinoma Mall and Uptown Parade.
The Homemade Corned Beef Benedict is for people who love potatoes, have a thing (lol) for poached eggs, like eggs benedict but not all the time, and enjoy salty food. I probably gave an odd set of food/taste preferences, but I hope I was still able to give you an idea on what to expect when ordering this dish. Hehe. The corned beef has just the right amount of flavor and tenderness; the “benedict” part of the dish won’t make you feel too sated; and the potato hash isn’t soggy. Surely one of my breakfast favorites!
Homemade Corned Beef Benedict (Php 350)
They provide separate menus for breakfast/lunch and dinner, so better come before 6 PM to be able to try this awesome dish. Single Origin originally opened at the second floor of C3 in Bonifacio High Street Central, but they also have a branch at the ground floor of Edades Garden in Rockwell. Book a table now!
You can find easily find a tapsilugan anywhere in Metro Manila, but for me, Rodic’s is just the best. I may be a little biased, but their tapsilog (tapa + rice + egg) gives you just the right amount of meatiness and oiliness (woops)! And since their tapa’s shredded, they’re so easy to eat. Yay!
Tapsilog (Php 95)
Rodic’s is originally located at UP Shopping Center in UP Diliman, but now it has branched out to five outlets: at the ground floor of Fedman Suites in Makati City, along Changyungco Street in Marikina City, at Masaya cor. Maginhawa, Congressional cor. TM Kalaw, and at the second floor of UP Town Center in Quezon City.
