Gardens by the Bay

Pam Ortiz Singapore, Travels
Gardens by the Bay

I couldn’t count how many times I’ve proposed, suggested, or attempted to visit Gardens by the Bay. The thing is, my sister dreaded the idea of going there, so…yes, now you know why I’ve had countless attempts. Haha. It’s a tie for us, though, since she sometimes can’t go to animal parks because of me (mentioned here lol).

Soooo finally: during my second most recent visit to Singapore (November 2017), I went to the Gardens by the Bay! I wasn’t really planning to go there that time, but then, [1] I had nothing else to do; [2] I had no one else to be with (a.k.a. my sister, because I went there on a work day); and [3] my cousin, who’s a “Friend of the Gardens”, made me realize that it was my chance (because of reason #2 lol) to go there.

Gardens by the Bay consists of three major attractions— Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, and Supertree Grove / OCBC Skyway. The standard rate (for non-residents in SG) is SGD$28 (~Php1.1k) for both Flower Dome and Cloud Forest. To be able to walk along OCBC Skyway—which is 22m above the ground, for you to get an up-close look at the supertrees—it costs SGD$8 (~Php316).

I’ve gone to OCBC Skyway last 2014, and I honestly don’t think there’s anything special about it. Lol. Or maybe it’s because we went there during daytime? Nah. I think it’s better to admire the supertrees from afar or from the ground. Hahahaha.

Okay, moving on to the next two main attractions— which conservatory first? Well, during my visit, I arrived at around 3 in the afternoon and I wanted to catch the mist at Cloud Forest (yes, there are mist timings, but more on that later), so I had decided to visit Flower Dome first.

First Sight from the Flower Dome Entrance

It takes at least an hour to explore the beautiful gardens in this 1.2-hectare conservatory. There are almost ten distinct gardens, so the floral displays vary as you roam around (i.e. you won’t get bored seeing the same type of flower/plant lol). Everything’s so beautiful, you probably can’t not score an instagrammable photo here. Hahaha.

Pretty Flowers (lol) at Flower Dome

Right after a refreshing visit to Flower Dome, why not get even more refreshed? Lol. Entering Cloud Forest feels like entering a different world. As you enter, you’ll hear the sound of the waterfalls and feel the cool mist as you feast your eyes with lush greenery.

Mist-Filled Secret Garden at Cloud Forest

As mentioned earlier, there are mist timings at Cloud Forest— every two hours from 10 in the morning through 8 in the evening. Be sure to come during those times!
