The Best Desserts in Metro Manila

Pam Ortiz Lists

I had never been a fan of dessert or anything sweet until a couple of years ago. I’m not sure what happened, maybe it’s just that the foodie in me had eventually evolved. Lol. Now, no matter how full I get after a meal, I still manage to make some room for dessert. *sigh*

No regrets, though, since it is true that desserts can uplift your mood. If you’re not a dessert lover like my past self, you’ll surely have a change of heart once you try any of these super satisfying treats:

  1. Pizzookie
  2. Who would’ve thought that a scoop of vanilla ice cream can rest beautifully on top of a soft and chewy chocolate chip skillet cookie? Thank God for this delicious combination. This sweet heavenly goodness definitely tops my list of favorite desserts!

    Php 230 at Bamba

Bamba’s pizzookie is probably the best I’ve ever tasted in Metro Manila. The cookie’s consistently fresh and soft, and the salted caramel syrup makes the cookie-and-ice-cream combination taste a whole lot better. Head over to their restaurant at BF Homes (along Aguirre Avenue; near Sinagtala Gate) now!

Php 220 (single scoop) / Php 315 (double scoop) at Milkbox

Milkbox serves various à la mode desserts, and of course, it includes the pizzookie. The cookie is chewy on the inside but quite burnt on the outside, and this adds a strong flavor that complements the sweetness of the ice cream. You can enjoy this pizzookie variation at their branch at Alabang Town Center (near Digital Walker).

  3. Mango Crêpe à la Mode
  4. You can never go wrong with crepes— they’re very easy to eat, and there are a lot of possible ways to serve them. And for me, crepes are served best when stuffed with fresh mangoes and topped with vanilla ice cream.

    Php 200 at Cafe Breton

Cafe Breton always does it right when it comes to crepes, so there’s no doubt that their mango crepe’s the best. They serve a generous amount of mangoes, the crepe itself tastes good, and the added scoop of ice cream is relatively large. Treat yourself at any of their 10 branches in Metro Manila: Greenfield District, Greenbelt 3, The Podium, Paseo de Magallanes, SM Mall of Asia, Robinsons Place Manila, Tomas Morato, Trinoma Mall, UP Ayala Technohub, and Westgate Alabang.

    Php 225 at Mama Lou’s

Mama Lou’s crepe is relatively thinner, which makes it easier to consume. As compared to Cafe Breton, their ice cream scoop’s a bit smaller, and overall, their mango crepe’s sweeter due to the added mango syrup. Have some at any of their outlets: Ayala Malls the 30th, UP Town Center, Evia Lifestyle Center, and BF Homes.

  5. Crème brulée
  6. Not everyone’s a fan of creme brulee because some find it too sweet, but for me, the combination of crispy burnt caramel and rich custard is just perfect.

    Php 248 at Wolfgang’s Steakhouse

Their creme brulee tastes really good— the amount of caramel is just right for the custard. Want some? Visit their restaurant at Newport Mall.

    Php 199 at Outback Steakhouse

Outback serves good creme brulee, too, but they can further improve it by adding more caramel or reducing the amount of custard. Dine at any of their branches in Eastwood Mall, ATC Corporate Center, Glorietta 4, or Blue Bay Walk.

  7. Turon
  8. This classic Filipino dessert already tastes delicious as is, but some of our local chefs still found ways to “enhance” them further. Yay!

    Php 220 at Locavore

Locavore, in general, serves Filipino dishes with a modern twist. This might be obvious already after seeing how their turon looks like. Lol. Instead of wrapping the banana with spring roll wrapper, they made it into a puff pastry. And to make it even sweeter, they topped it with leche flan and ice cream. What a treat! Sweeten up your day by visiting either of their branches in Kapitolyo and Burgos Circle.

    Php 195 at Neil’s Kitchen

Neil’s Kitchen definitely nailed this turon recreation— sugar coated bananas sandwiched by crisp turon wrappers + drizzled with caramel and powdered sugar…wow. You gotta try this now! Drop by their restaurant at Westgate in Alabang.
