No need to go to the nearest Yoshinoya for your beef bowl fix. Just make one at home!

Ingredients

  • 450g thinly sliced beef

  • 1 yellow onion, sliced

  • 1 cup dashi stock *Note 1

  • 4 tbsp mirin *Note 2

  • 4 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 2 tsp green onion, chopped

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 cups steamed rice

Directions

  • Add dashi stock, mirin, soy sauce, and sugar to a saucepan set over medium heat. Cover and bring to a boil.
  • Add onion slices, slightly stir, and cover. Cook until translucent.
  • Add beef, and cook until tender.
  • Serve over steamed rice. Top with egg, and sprinkle over chopped green onions.

Notes

  • 1: No dashi stock? Use chicken broth instead, and reduce brown sugar to 1 tbsp.
  • 2: No mirin? Use dry white wine or rice vinegar instead. To counteract the sourness, add 1/2 tsp sugar for every tbsp.

Let me know what you think!
